Government Internship Program (GIP)

OVERVIEW / BACKGROUND

Government Internship Program or GIP is a component of KABATAAN 2000 under Executive Order (EO) no. 139 s. 1993, and DOLE Administrative Order No. 260-15, which aims to provide opportunities and engage young workers to serve general public in government agencies/entities projects and programs at the national and local level.

The Objectives of the program are: To provide young workers, particularly the poor/indigent and young workers, opportunity to demonstrate their talents and skills in the field of public service with the ultimate objective of attracting the best and the brightest who want to pursue a career in government service, particularly in the fields and disciplines related to labor and employment, and To fast track the implementation and monitoring of DOLE programs and projects related to employment facilitation and social protection, all of which directly contributes to the goal of inclusive growth through massive employment generation and substantial poverty reduction.

Who are qualified as DOLE GIP Interns?

Beneficiaries must be:

  1. Individuals aged 18-30 years old,
  2. at least a graduate of High School/Senior High, or its equivalent level under the Alternative Learning System, or technical-vocational graduate
  3. Having no work experience as an employee in any government agency.

What are the requirements?

Applicants shall submit:

  • Proof of Education or Training (TOR, Diploma, Form 137/138, National Certification or Any document/proof to this effect by education/training institution)
  • Proof of Age (Birth Certificate or National ID or Valid Government ID)

What are the benefits and entitlements?

Applicants are entitled to the following:

  • Stipend equivalent to the highest prevailing minimum wage in the Region
  • Group Personal Accident Insurance (GPAI) coverage with GSIS or accredited Private / Microinsurance provider
  • Certificate of Completion or Participation

Duration of Internship

Minimum of three (3) months to six (6) months. Provided that:

  • Former GIP beneficiaries may be re-admitted for a minimum of (3) months to a maximum of six (6) months upon recommendation of the partner agencies;
  • Provided that they will be designated to perform tasks that would enable them to acquire additional competencies that would merit a potential position, whether contractual, casual or permanent in the government service;
  • Such recommendation contains:
    • Performance rating or evaluation of the intern;
    • Needed skills of the intern for enhancement; and
    • the intent to hire or absorb the GIP as a contractual, temporary or regular employee, subject to the willingness of the intern and applicable Civic Service Rules and Regulations.
